CPNTools is alive again!

We have used CPNTools in our previous papers. Recently the activity of the related communities were reduced and there was a long time that no new version was supplied. But last week I found here. A new website for the CPNTools and and a new version (3.0) was also available for download. As an old fan I am so glad about this!

How to assess a supply chain?

According to Blanchard  When Fortune magazine identifies the top-performing companies in a given industry, it uses the straightforward standard of annual sales. When it comes to identifying the top supply chains, though, merely counting up dollars and cents won’t get the job done”

When analyzing the AMR top supply chain’s list I also think that although the enlisted companies possibly have well established supply chains but they are not necessarily the best. I think the “community of supply chain practitioners” which have a share in the scores that build up this list, are naturally influenced by the reports published to the media.  For example, SCM of a company in an industry which you can utilize direct sell strategy, your production time is too short, … should not be compared to multistage fast changing , time consuming production industry. Consider Microsoft : The company can sell a big amount of its product online ,the concept of inventory cost is completely different for the digital deliverable, and compare it to for example Toyota! Don’t you think SCM comparison means nothing here?!

Supply Chain Top 25

Couple of month ago AMR published 2010 Top 25 supply chain list.
AMR has also provided an analysis report with the list. At the first of this report, there are 4 key points which these two seem cool to me:

  • In the No. 1 slot for the third year running is Apple, with stellar financials and strong votes.

  • Procter & Gamble (P&G), the only company to have been in the Top 5 for six consecutive years, comes in at No. 2, with Cisco (No. 3), Wal-Mart Stores (No. 4) and Dell (No. 5) right behind it

A new ebook

I have recently downloaded this book:

Supply Chain Management Best Practices -Second Edition

by David Blanchard

At the first glance it is well organized and also looks practical. I will put it to the ebook section soon.
